Mary Thien Hoang Appointed to SES

Chairman Mario Cordero announced today the appointment of Ms. Mary Thien Hoang to the Senior Executive Service. Ms. Hoang has served as the Chairman’s Chief of Staff since April of 2013 and will remain in that position.

Ms. Hoang joined the Commission in 2005 as an Attorney-Advisor in the Bureau of Enforcement. During her tenure at the Commission, Ms. Hoang has also served as Special Assistant to the Director of the Bureau of Certification and Licensing and as an Attorney-Advisor in the Office of the General Counsel. Prior to her career in Federal service, Ms. Hoang clerked for the Honorable Raymond A. Batten for the Superior Court of New Jersey.

Ms. Hoang holds a B.A. from Villanova University and a J.D. from Widener University School of Law.

Chairman Cordero stated, “Mary’s dedication to public service and untiring commitment to the Commission has been and will continue to be an asset to our agency and to the shipping public. As a leader, Ms. Hoang brings flexibility, resilience and savvy to the FMC’s highly dynamic organization.”

The Federal Maritime Commission is the federal agency responsible for regulating the nation’s international ocean transportation for the benefit of exporters, importers, and the American consumer. The FMC’s mission is to foster a fair, efficient, and reliable international ocean transportation system while protecting the public from unfair and deceptive practices.
