A final rule by the Federal Maritime Commission amending requirements for Service Contracts and NVOCC Service Arrangements (NSAs), announced earlier this month, will become effective on Friday, May 5, 2017.

Parties who wish to take advantage of the updated filing requirements will be able to do so beginning that day.

The amendments ease regulatory burdens and reduce the costs of compliance with the agency’s regulations.

The final rule in Docket No. 16-05 is now available on the Commission’s website and will be published in the Federal Register on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

The Federal Maritime Commission is responsible for regulating the Nation’s international ocean transportation for the benefit of exporters, importers, and the American consumer. The Commission’s mission is to foster a fair, efficient, and reliable international ocean transportation system while protecting the public from unfair and deceptive practices.
