Today the Commission issued a Notice of Investigation and Request for Comments regarding conditions created by Transport Canada’s proposed ballast water regulations. This begins the public process that was initiated by the petition filed by the Lake Carriers’ Association which I reported in my statement of May 20. Comments received as a result of this notice will help form the foundation for any actions the Commission will take in this matter. Given the importance of this issue and its far reaching impact upon the maritime trade on the Great Lakes, I encourage anyone who has either a direct or indirect interest in the proposed Transport Canada rule to file a comment and make your voice heard.
