Statement by Commissioner Louis E. Sola Regarding Future Bookings on Crystal Cruises

Posted

In light of certain recently reported events, passengers with future bookings on Crystal Cruises may be concerned about their ability to receive refunds for future tickets they have purchased.  Customers who bought a voyage embarking from a U.S. port have consumer protection safeguards in place by the FMC.   Crystal Cruises has sufficient funds to provide refunds for qualifying individuals.  While consumers might not be able to recover all costs associated with taking a cruise, such as airfare and hotel expenses, they can take comfort that they are protected from losing the money for their cruise ticket as the law requires.  From my Fact Finding 30 investigation, it is unfortunate to see any economic driver in the cruise industry have a negative effect on the ports, crew members, employees, and vendors.  Fortunately, thanks to the hard work of the FMC staff and the foresight of my fellow Commissioners in the implementation of effective Consumer Protection Rules and policies, consumers should be reasonably protected.
