Export Service is New Added Focus of FMC Ocean Carrier Audit Program

The Federal Maritime Commission’s Vessel-Operating Common Carrier (VOCC) Audit Program is expanding its scope to also evaluate how shipping lines are serving U.S. export shippers.

Demurrage & Detention ANPRM Comments Deadline Extended

The Federal Maritime Commission is providing an additional 30-days for public comment on the Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) on Demurrage and Detention Billing Requirements (Docket No. 22-04) issued last month.

The Federal Maritime Commission is amending its regulations governing non-performance by Passenger Vessel Operators (PVO/cruise lines) and establishing new requirements for when cruise passengers should be provided refunds for cancelled or delayed voyages.

The Federal Maritime Commission granted the temporary relief sought by Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. (Expeditors) from certain tariff filing requirements.  Expeditors sought relief from Commission regulations as part of its response to a malicious cyberattack experienced in February 2022.

FMC Meets to Discuss Ocean Carrier Enforcement Efforts & New Rule Protecting Cruise Passengers

The Federal Maritime Commission met today in open and closed session to be briefed on enforcement activities, a final rule expanding the rights of passengers to secure refunds for cancelled or delayed voyages, and the work of Area Representatives.

Update: Notice to Passengers Regarding Crystal Cruises

The Federal Maritime Commission has been advised that Proof of Claims for refunds from Crystal Cruises can be filed at https://crystalcruiseclaims.com/.  The Commission strongly encourages passengers with cancelled and/or booked cruises with Crystal Cruises to complete and deliver the Proof of Claim form, with necessary supporting documentation by the due date.
