Appointment of Ron Murphy as Director of Administration

Chairman Richard A. Lidinsky, Jr. announced today the appointment of Ronald D. Murphy as Director of Administration of the Federal Maritime Commission effective October 25, 2009. This appointment also designates Mr. Murphy as a member of the Senior Executive Service.

Most recently, Mr. Murphy served as Director of the Commission's Office of Consumer Affairs and Dispute Resolution Services (CADRS). He joined the Commission in 1973 as a management analyst in the Commission's Office of Budget  &  Finance. Since then, he has held a number of positions, including serving as the Commission's Assistant Secretary, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Consumer Complaints and Licensing, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Investigations, Inspector General, Director of Management Services and as a trial attorney. He also lectured in business management and human resources management at Northern Virginia Community College.

Mr. Murphy is a lifelong resident of Virginia. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration and an MBA from Virginia Tech, as well as a J.D. from George Mason University School of Law.

The Commission's Office of Consumer Affairs and Dispute Resolution Services provides services to assist parties in resolving disputes and shipping problems in the U.S. Maritime industry that affect international ocean shipping. Recognizing the important work performed on behalf of the public by all of the capable CADRS staff members, Chairman Lidinsky noted that the office will continue to report directly to the Commission's Secretary, Karen V. Gregory, who will provide added support and guidance during this transition period. To further ensure continuity of operations, Ms. Zoraya De La Cruz, currently an Attorney Advisor within CADRS, has been designated as Acting Director of CADRS.
