Commissioner Dye Visits the Port of Los Angeles

Federal Maritime Commissioner Rebecca F. Dye and her counsel, Nicole Vega Verdejo, traveled to California to visit the nation’s largest gateway for containerized cargo: the Port of Los Angeles.

On August 24, 2026, Jon Poelma, Managing Director at APM Terminals Los Angeles, and his staff hosted them for a tour of Pier 400. During the visit, APM Terminals leadership outlined the facility’s extensive technological advancements, infrastructure improvements, and environmental initiatives designed to meet increasing cargo volumes.

The tour offered a close look at the operations that support U.S. global commerce. In briefings with APM Terminals’ leadership, Commissioner Dye also received updates on the substantial capital investments required to transition Pier 400 toward net‑zero terminal operations, positioning the facility as a leader in clean-energy drayage and sustainable terminal infrastructure in the United States.
