FMC’s 50th Anniversary Events Underway

January 25, 2011

During 2011, the Commission will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its creation as an independent agency. As part of that celebration, the Commission plans to hold a series of events looking at trends in the maritime industry and the FMC’s role as a leader in developing the efficient intermodal practices that revolutionized global trade. It also anticipates making a number of new resources and information easily available to the public and our maritime community.

January 2011: The Commission is pleased to announce that historical Commission and predecessor agency Annual Reports from 1917 to 1999 are now available on the Commission’s website. Each annual report provides an historical account of significant industry events and the Commission’s and its predecessor agencies’ regulatory activity during each respective fiscal year. With this addition, the public will have full, electronic access to a significant body of historical information. Commission Annual reports from 1917 to 1999 are separately grouped on the Commission’s Annual Reports webpage. These historical reports supplement the Commission’s Annual reports from 2000 through the present that are also available on the Commission’s website.

February 2, 2011: The Commission will host a roundtable of former FMC Chairmen in the Commission’s Main Hearing Room on February 2, 2011, 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Former Chairmen will share their thoughts and perspectives on issues and events during their respective times at the Commission’s helm, on issues confronting the Commission today, and on the Commission’s role in the future.

This event is open to the public. So that we may properly plan for this event, if you would like to attend please RSVP to Secretary@fmc.gov no later than Friday, January 28th.
