Carnival Cruise Line Alert - Carnival Triumph Cancellations

The Federal Maritime Commission has been in regular contact with Carnival Cruise Lines (Carnival) over the past several days. Carnival has notified the Commission that it will cancel several cruises in light of an engine room fire that occurred aboard the passenger vessel CARNIVAL TRIUMPH earlier this month.
Specifically, voyages aboard the CARNIVAL TRIUMPH scheduled to begin on the following dates have been cancelled:
- February 21, 2013
- February 25, 2013
- March 2, 2013
- March 7, 2013
- March 11, 2013
- March 16, 2013
- March 21, 2013
- March 25, 2013
- March 30, 2013
- April 4, 2013
- April 8, 2013
- April 13, 2013
In a letter sent to the Commission by Carnival, the company states:
"Our technical teams have been working round the clock to make the necessary repairs; however, despite their best efforts, it is now clear the repairs will take longer than anticipated. Therefore, we are very sorry to say we must cancel the above listed voyages of the Carnival Triumph. We realize how much you were looking forward to sailing with us and we sincerely apologize for this disruption to your vacation plans."
Carnival also states that it is offering the following compensation to affected passengers:
- Full refund of cruise fare, non-refundable transportation costs, pre-paid shore excursions, gratuities, government fees, and taxes;
- Refund of Carnival Vacation Protection Plan; and
- 25% discount on any 3-5 day future carnival cruise or 15% discount on a 6-7 day cruise
