FMC Announces Appointment of Karen V. Gregory as Secretary

The Federal Maritime Commission ("FMC" or "Commission") today announced the appointment of Karen V. Gregory as Secretary of the FMC, effective September 28, 2008. This appointment also designates Ms. Gregory as a member of the Senior Executive Service.
Ms. Gregory is a lifelong resident of Northern Virginia. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from George Mason University and a Master of Arts in Economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Her master's thesis centered on trends in ocean shipping, entitled Economies of Scale in International Liner Shipping and Ongoing Consolidation: An Application of Stigler's Survivorship Principle.
Since joining the Commission in 1987, Ms Gregory has served with distinction in a number of capacities, beginning as an Industry Economist in the Bureau of Economics and Agreement Analysis. In 2000, she was selected as the Director of the Office of Economics and Competition Analysis. Ms. Gregory subsequently became the Commission's Assistant Secretary in 2004.
In appointing Ms. Gregory, the Commission recognizes her depth of experience, commitment to public service, and dedication to the agency. The Commission looks forward to working with Ms. Gregory in her new position as Secretary.
